Yaga’s Hut is a long-term personal project born from a love of folktales and art.
Glad you found your way to Yaga’s Hut, a place to gather my illustrations and give space to characters that rarely appear in mainstream culture — gods, spirits, and creatures from Slavic folklore. Each drawing is my way of exploring their symbolism while experimenting with style and atmosphere.
My full name is Jelena Matejić, and I live in a small town near Zagreb, Croatia - close to the Turopolje forests where folklore still lingers in the air. Walking those paths, listening to old stories, and imagining what might still hide between the trees quietly shapes the world of Yaga’s Hut.
My background is in UX and product design — if you’d like to see that side of my work, visit my personal website. Illustration, unlike my design work, gives me space for spontaneity, for brush strokes that don’t follow rules — a bit like wandering down a forest path.
Outside of work and art, I enjoy hiking, quiet places in nature, and spending time with my loved ones. This site is a mix of all that: design, art, nature and curiosity for the myths that shaped our part of the world.
