Slavic god

Veles

“I hold the secrets of earth, and the silence beneath it.”

Veles is the serpent in the roots, the whisper beneath the earth. He rules wealth, magic, cattle, and the underworld’s hidden paths. In darkness he moves between worlds, guarding secrets and tempting souls toward power or ruin.

Shape & Nature

Veles may appear as a horned beast, serpent, wolf, or shaded figure cloaked in earth and mist. His eyes gleam in subterranean darkness, and his voice winds through rivers and tree roots. He bridges the seen and unseen, holding his realm close to the living world.

He who knows the roots knows the world’s hidden fortunes.

Lord of Magic & Cattle

Keeper of flocks, protector of herds, Veles also holds mastery in magic and transformation. He is invoked by farmers and traders alike, offering protection to livestock, guidance in the underdeep, and wisdom to those who dare embrace the shadows.

From the underworld’s whisper, fortunes are born or lost.

Rituals & Offerings

Offerings to him include milk, wool, silver, or salt left at the roots of trees or at the threshold of forests. Some whispered prayers seek his favor in trade, livestock health, or magical insight. His shrines lie in groves, caves, or deep riverbanks, places where the living reach toward the hidden.

Leave a cup of milk by the roots, and his ear will find you.

The Enigma of Veles

Veles is both ally and adversary—protector of wealth and tempter in twilight. His domain tests those who dig too deep or crave too much. But to call upon him is to embrace the duality: power and danger, hidden riches and unseen cost.

Those who trust only the surface will never see what stirs beneath.
